Myrtle Beach Day 1

First of June, we went to Myrtle Beach with Ryan's Mom. Robert couldn't go due to work, so Julie promised us date nights (yes, please!) and we shared a condo with their timeshare. It was so wonderful. I know it's forever ago, but the pictures are so fun that I want to share.

Cooking pizza from scratch in the condo when we arrived:

First night fun in the pool. It's a walk-in pool which was AWESOME for these kids.

First day at the beach.
The kids had a blast! My camera was so fogged up for a bit because of going from cold room to hot outside but I love these pictures...

Oversharing of pictures...go!

The iPad was a hit while we rested in the hotel room! (of course!)

We got cleaned up and stopped for books at Barnes and Noble. The kids were so excited about theirs they couldn't wait to read them! (This is standing in line.)

We ate at a yummy local restaurant and opted to take a few pics while the sun went down.
I love them!

Rainbow!

If you zoom in on this sign, it says "Henley Construction"!

More to come!

BIG BOY!!!

Huge huge huge news in the Hughes family. Like I can't believe this has happened.
Gavin stopped sucking his thumb. SERIOUSLY!
My friend Liz got this picture last weekend:
He has sucked his thumb with his blanket at bedtime (or this is right when he woke up) for his entire life. Like since he was a newborn. I thought this was going to be a tough habit to break.

So Gavin and I went to the dentist on Wednesday for his first teeth cleaning.
I took him last time I went so he could watch, and he seemed totally ok with the idea of getting his teeth cleaned. So we just tried it with mine and Ryan's regular dentist, not a pediatric dentist. He did AWESOME!!!

So I asked the dentist if he could tell from Gavin's teeth that he sucks his thumb. He said not at all, BUT that when permanent teeth started coming in, he could definitely mess them up. Gavin heard our whole conversation, I talked to him after the appointment, and that was it. He stopped. Cold turkey. Gave up his blanket, too. SERIOUSLY!?

So as a reward, we went to Target 3 days later to pick out a present. I've been spying on him at night and naps and he seriously isn't cheating! This boy is a big boy!! We are so proud of him and can't believe it was so easy!

And I have about 10 million posts I need to be blogging about (Joanna :) ). I'll get there!

Memorial Day Weekend

On Memorial Day weekend, we went to Gram and Papaw's to visit with Ryan's family that flew in from Seattle.

Ryan brought his banjo he got for Christmas and Julie pulled out her dulcimer:

Ryan forgot his finger picks so he made some out of guitar picks and duct tape! Hilarious.

It was so fun watching them pickin' and grinnin'.

Maybe I should pick up the Mandolin to join them!

Then Monday morning, we woke up and went out to garden with Gram & Papaw.

Gav found four frogs and spent the next hour catching them!

And of course a trip to Gram and Papaw's is not complete without a tractor ride!

Then Monday night we had a date night with some Knoxville friends of ours that have just moved to Chattanooga:
I wish I had my Nikon to take pictures of the boys in Meghan's glasses' reflection! My cell phone had to do because it looked really cool:

Then to celebrate Memorial Day, we drove through Chattanooga's National Cemetery. It was a great end to the day and seeing families gathering around their loved one's graves really reminded us what the day was all about.
It was a wonderfully relaxing weekend!
