Baby Quail

HUGE announcement in the Hughes' family. We have 8 new babies!!!

Our neighbors bought 80 quail at $1 a piece to raise, release on their property they have out in Seymour that they're building a cabin on, and hunt them. They kept telling us we needed to take some when they ordered them. They finally got them, I saw them, and fell in love.

I just asked if we could bring 2 home in a shoebox just for a little while for the kids to see and hold.
Well the kids loved them SO MUCH, of course!

So we gave them back and I convinced Ryan that we needed to take some home. :) I went to recycling a few days later and there was a huge box just laying on the ground, and I said it was a sign from the Lord. Ha!

So that same day we ran over the the Eadys with $10 and brought home 8 babies with cedar shavings and food.

For the first few days, this is what our house looked like. We all just sat around and watched them!

Gavin plays them games and shows on the iPad. Ha!

We are loving watching them grow bigger and bigger:

They sleep all together like this under the light for warmth. And they tweet in their sleep. For Pete's Sake they're precious:

I know you're all wondering, but Dakota actually does GREAT with them.

 This seriously happened. Without injury.

Our neighbors have been loving on them, too!

and Emma:

They know who their Momma is! They even tweet for me when I'm not around!

I CANNOT stop taking pictures of them. I'm a little attached to them so I'm sure you guys don't want to see this many, but I'm posting them anyways. :) You can tell that they're a little bigger below than from the pictures above. Notice their wings getting ruffly!

Eating a SLUG:

When they get warm they close their eyes like they're content. Love them.

Pictures from Saturday. Even bigger and fluffier!

I'm sure I'll post more later! We give them "Recess" outside almost every day, so that's how I get so many pictures. It's getting harder and harder to catch them now, though! We'll see how much longer we can do that!
